My partner has a lot of health issues which give me pause to ponder many questions.
How do I support them?
How can I help them experience their bucket list?
How do I care for myself?
How can I make every transition easier for us?
What do we both need to remain comfortable?
Who can we trust?
What plans do I need to make?
How do I handle them saying no to treatment when I wish they would say yes?
Why do I feel so guilty for wanting them to fight?
How selfish is it of me to ask someone to tire themselves out just for a few more years… months… days?
How do I handle it when I can’t handle it from exhaustion?
Who can I turn to for help?
Feeling so alone here, God so you have comfort?
I can’t pretend to know what you’re going through, but all I can say is offer them patience, understanding, and a safe space to be themselves. Sometimes, support means just listening and showing them they aren’t alone, even if you don’t have all the answers. Your presence, your kindness, and your willingness to stand by them make more difference than you realize. I’m here if you need an ear.

I’ve only now started to learn to accept this process of grief. Mourning the idea of loss that is coming. It’s such a twisted mind space to be in. We were thrust into this right before Covid and it’s been a long tiring battle. There is hope, always a bit of hope. Yet I tend to see the world in a different light and that hope seems like a loose string in the breeze for all the good it does me. I’m angry at the situation. It’s normal to be I hear. It feels so illogical.

I can’t imagine what you’re going through. It seems so unfair for us to have to endure such things in this life. I can imagine it’s like sensing the shape of absence before it fully arrives. There’s a helplessness to it. What’s right for you in this situation may not be right for them. I know you’re doing everything you can to hold on and to be angry is normal. Hold on to that hope. Love them with your entirety and don’t forget to make a little time for YOU too. I hope this all makes sense to you.
