My experience wasn’t horrific. We did have a run in with a lie about a brownie because one of our division would not flirt back with another person in a different division, so they lied we stole a brownie. We were all drilled for 3 hours, a puddle of sweat underneath us until the truth came out. I often wonder how sadistic a person has to be to watch a hundred people work out in pain since they worked out earlier that day, over a bad flirt situation. Otherwise it was uneventful, I didn’t puke in the gas chamber, I defeated my fear of heights, I completed a run in record time for myself, and I gained 20 pounds of muscle. My Petty Officer, DI, told me that he was proud of me. That felt good inside.
Then A school happened. My military career was full of delays, here class had started 3 weeks before I arrived so I was too late to join in since we were learning how to run microsoft on DoS. Granted Windows had been out for a while by then. .. just something to laugh at now. Times were still changing.
The barracks I stayed in was in the process of construction because a room had asbestos in it. So… all the other rooms were safe? Sure.
I met a lot of cool people during my career. Some became semi famous.
