Life, A Little Less Fun

The term adulting became popular later in my life, this is a soft play on my experiences and how I would describe them as ‘adulting’.

A little later on,

Lights already on,

Writing out hooks,

Plotting out crooks,

Payments a lot overdue,

Landlords pocket wet like dew,

A.M. burning the candle at both ends,

Working while energy descends,

Time to eat,

Sleeping on the seat,

Payday always a day away,

Grinding to process the green hay,

Bailing behind a tractor,

Behind the barn kissing the landlords sister,

Wedding ring on the finger,

Laying down beside her,

Tired from another long job,

Feeling like my man Job,

Most dangerous man from the Bible,

Lost his life worse than Abel,

Standing on street corner,

Wishing I could be a loner,

Hermit in the trees,

Busier than a million bees,

Like the sun,

Million degrees less fun,

Constantly pushing self,

Falling on my knees, praying for myself,

Quick cash comes with its own danger,

Men pursue out of anger,

Tired of trying to find a place,

To lay my head for just a little peace,

Quick, that landlords coming,

Kick me out faster than I get to getting,

Still stuck, constantly working,

Life, a little less fun,

Yet still I’m on the street corner twerking,

For that almighty dollar,

The sign says one day I might be white collar,

One day never comes,

Never do I get to become,

That which I dream so heavily,

Weighing on my mind constantly,

The successful me,

The loser I am,

Insufficiently dressed,

No rock goddess,

No eight cylinder chariot,

No room on the yacht,

Only me,

Only me,

Only me,
