CHANGING ROLES

A lazy day in November 2018 changed my partner’s and I lives forever,

Five surgeries later with one more to come in the future,

Our roles have been turned upside down.

Quickly came the medical lessons,

Thrust upon me the role of caretaker, her, patient.

For many these turns create chaos which rips them apart,

For us the chaos made us stronger.

The challenges we faced,

Hospital stays for both of us, a few mental breakdowns,

And a lot of therapy and doctor appointments,

We each carry our burdens and guilts,

The way we find strength is by relying on each other.

We’ve learned to settle our pettiness, and arguments,

Learning each other more inimitably.
